FT-817 vs FT857

Some folks have been talking about the 817 and the 857 on .52 and I just wanted to show the difference in size etc..... Both are great radios but again me being a new ham I don't have any experience with any other brands except with stuff I have played with at my local HRO .....
So below are some pictures of the 2 radios stacked on top of each other ....
the 817 weighs in @ 2.5 lbs and the 857 is @ 4.6 pounds

Wow looks like simplex is making news ...

Press Release: National Simplex Monitoring Team November 4th 2011 -- The Interstate Highway Rest Area Society (IHRAS) is launching a grass roots effort to increase usage of simplex communications. The National Simplex Monitoring Team was created to promote the “Active Monitoring” of 146.520 simplex.

52 is pretty popular here in the Phoenix AZ area and I hope the interest continues.  There are several hams that frequent 52 regularly and I hope to hear more with this new push ...
